Week 6 - Lisa, aka, Betty Hardcoreski
January 2, 2025I picked a great morning to find a stranger to interview; I was welcomed into the K-1 parking lot with a beautiful inversion down in the valley! I hung out at the bottom of the K-1 gondola line until two ladies, Lisa and Laura, caught my attention. They both ripped coming down to the gondola line, and on top of that, Lisa was a tele skier. I asked Lisa if she wanted to interview with me, and the girls agreed to let me go up the gondola with them and take some photos.
Lisa is from Winchendon, Massachusetts, which is about 2 hours south of Killington. She has had an unlimited Killington season pass and has been a weekend warrior since 1992! “I just decided that skiing was going to become my life,” she said. Lisa has enjoyed growing her ski family over the years.
Lisa first telemarked before switching to snowboarding so she could ride tighter lines in the trees with her friends. She has brought back skiing for icy days, and she will still snowboard if the conditions are right. Although she skis with tele bindings and boots, she does not drop her knees anymore (however, she did do some tele turns for me!). Her goal is to get alpine boots and bindings this year and get back into skiing as well as do some uphill travel.
Lisa likes Killington because it is home of the longest season in the east. “I do like skiing other areas. Variety is nice, but Killington is where my heart is,” said Lisa. The snowmaking and grooming are superior, as well as Killington’s many events that Lisa is a fan of such as Day One, the World Cup, Subaru Fest, Bear Mountain Mogul Challenge, the pond skim, and spring skiing into June.
It was great talking to Lisa and her friend Laura. We spent a very pretty morning talking about skiing and getting some photos!
Lisa, have a great season! It was so nice talking with you both.
