Week 1 - Johnny Sharpe

Welcome to my first blog post for my series, Mountain Faces. I am trying to keep myself really busy this winter taking photos!

In addition to Park Profiles, a kparks skier/ rider photo series I started last week, I have started this series as well.

I will be interviewing one random person in the gondola each week, as well as getting some portraits while we chat on the ride up.

The goal of this project is to learn more about the people who ski and ride at Killington.

Up for my first week is Johnny Sharpe. He was not a random choice (he’s my roommate and guinea pig for this series - thanks Johnny!), but all the other weeks will be!

Johnny is from Sparta, New Jersey. He moved to Killington to attend college at the resort and hospitality management program. He has been skiing for about 28 years and has been snowboarding for 4-5 years. Johnny turned 31 today (Happy Birthday, Johnny!).

Johnny loves Killington because of the snowmaking capabilities. It’s not bad living at the resort with the longest season on the east coast! He also loves the variety of trails and terrain Killington has to offer; there really is something for everyone here!

Johnny loves the adrenaline rush he gets from skiing down the mountain. He loves the scenery, especially the snow covered trees, as well as spending time on the hill with friends.

Johnny has some great goals for the season! He wants to be able to ride black diamonds on his snowboard AND win the pond skim, and I think he can most certainly achieve both these goals.

Favorite pocket snack: Starburst

Favorite ski: Johnny’s favorite ski is the Volkl Kendo. He says it is great in all conditions from hard pack to powder and is very stable at high speeds.

Thank you, Johnny, for being my first post for Mountain Faces.

There will be a new post every Saturday, so make sure to check back next week!
